Gachagua Warns IG Kanja Over Alleged Plot to Disrupt Emurua Dikirr Visit

Former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, raising concerns over what he alleges is a coordinated plan by government operatives to disrupt his planned visit to Emurua Dikirr on Friday, August 21.
In the Thursday letter, Gachagua says he and his entourage are facing mounting threats ahead of the visit to the Narok County constituency.
He accuses Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumbah Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo of financing what he describes as politically-motivated police mobilization, with sitting MP David Kipsang Keter allegedly acting as the ground coordinator.
Gachagua also cites recorded threats allegedly issued by Kipsang, which were captured on video and widely circulated across mainstream and social media platforms. The former deputy president says the remarks warned the DCP leader to stay away from the constituency.
The letter further outlines Gachagua’s grievances against the police leadership, including alleged security failures during the Homa Bay incident and what he describes as the weaponization of law enforcement against his political movement.
Gachagua says he submitted evidence of 24 attacks against himself and his supporters to police in January 2026, but claims no action has been taken by the National Police Service.
“What happened in Homa Bay was a shame of the highest magnitude in post-independence Kenya,” Gachagua states in the letter, implying the incident warrants the IG’s resignation.
He also warns Kanja that the IG could face international legal exposure if he fails to restrain what the letter characterizes as state-sanctioned violence against citizens.
Ahead of Friday’s visit, Gachagua is demanding three assurances from the police chief: that his entourage and supporters will be protected, that police are fully aware of the planned gathering, and that adequate security measures have been deployed across Emurua Dikirr.
