EACC nabs two court staff over alleged bribes in Eldoret, Nakuru

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate incidents involving alleged solicitation and receipt of bribes for court services.

In Eldoret, EACC arrested a female Court Assistant over allegations of soliciting and receiving a Sh20,000 bribe.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after allegedly receiving the money as part of a bribe sought to facilitate the issuance of a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land in a matter pending before the court. “The arrest followed a complaint by a court user who alleged that a magistrate had demanded Sh50,000 to secure the stay order,” EACC said in a statement.

According to the complaint, the Court Assistant was allegedly involved in receiving part of the money sought to facilitate the court order. The suspect was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 pending the completion of investigations.

In a separate incident in Nakuru, EACC arrested a court process server over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe. The man is accused of demanding money from a complainant in exchange for allocating a convenient mention date for the complainant’s case.

He was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing before being released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 pending completion of investigations. The arrests form part of EACC’s efforts to combat bribery and other forms of corruption at public service delivery points.

Corruption in Kenya’s judiciary remains a significant challenge, impacting public trust and the fair delivery of justice. The Commission has increasingly focused on corruption risks affecting members of the public when seeking government and other public services.
